Being Seen and Heard: The Art of Public Speaking
Public Speaking Workshop with Emily Jeanne Brown ’11
Saturday, January 30, 2027 1-5 p.m.
A compelling speaker is grounded, charismatic, and deeply connected to their audience, qualities that anyone can learn with the right tools and preparation. In this two-part workshop, participants will learn body and breath-based techniques for mitigating anxiety, speaking clearly and telling a compelling story. After the first 90 minutes of group work, Amplify’s public speaking participants will be invited to workshop their talks in front of other participants with direct coaching feedback from Emily.
This workshop is strongly recommended for all participants in the Amplify Public Speaking Competition, but the first half is open to any interested Smithie! Come learn how to develop your public speaking skills and write a powerful talk. Emily Jeanne Brown ’11 is a public speaking coach with a background in theater and songwriting who is passionate about helping her clients connect to their voices with confidence, presence, and purpose. Registered Amplify participants will also be able to refine their talk with Emily.
Registration is required—the link will be available after Amplify registration opens on November 9.
