Biography

Naila Moreira (she/they) is the science writing specialist in the Jacobson Center and directs the Journalism Concentration. She teaches WRT 136: Journalism Principles and Practice, as well as introductory science writing courses on water resources and climate change. She has co-taught data journalism in the department of Statistics and Data Science and taught environmental communication in the department of Environmental Science and Policy.

Naila has published in the areas of science journalism, nature writing, fiction, and poetry in venues including The Boston GlobeDaily Hampshire Gazette, and a variety of literary journals such as Terrain.org and the Cider Press Review. She has poetry forthcoming in Scientific American and a middle grade novel forthcoming from Walker Books US in spring 2024. She holds a doctorate in geology from the University of Michigan. She plays ultimate frisbee and birdwatches in her free time.
