Supporting Our Community

Smith College is committed to protecting the privacy, well-being, and safety of our community. Below are resources for students, faculty, and staff members. Additional resources will be provided as they become available.

Principles we return to in uncertain times:

  1. Our commitment at Smith to academic freedom and freedom of expression is unwavering;
  2. Our highest priority is to educate students to think critically, to question assumptions, and to pursue the truth through approaches grounded in debate, multiple perspectives, and evidence-based research;
  3. The commitment at Smith College to the principles of intellectual rigor, human rights, and ethical leadership are central to our mission of educating women and every student in our classes, of developing global citizens, and of maintaining excellence in research and scholarship;
  4. External forces are striving to divide our campus. Let us join together in working against those forces with careful thought, strategic action, and a commitment to this community—understanding that we will not agree on everything;
  5. The leadership team of the college is committed to working with the campus community to act on behalf of the values American higher education represents—values that are central to a functioning and effective democracy.
